Artist Statement

I genuinely respect the sacred trust that nature photographers have with their subject matter. That sacred trust is to portray no more than what was actually before their lens at the time of the shot. Nothing more – nothing less. I never add subject matter or colors not present at the scene, nor do I remove “distractions” such as twigs or wires from the image.

I am a firm believer in every artist’s right to express themselves as they see fit. However, to ensure the integrity of nature photography both now, and well into the future (especially as technology improves), I feel that digitally manipulated photos should be labeled as such, especially if the subsequent image might potentially deceive the viewer. That is why I grant anyone who purchases my images to view the original transparency to verify there has been no digital manipulation of the image.

The photographs I take attempt to capture nature in its most pure and pristine state. After all, untouched nature is far more magnificent than anything I could possibly imagine, so how could I hope to improve upon it? And as I look over my images, I can’t help but feel a sense of gratitude and humility that I had the opportunity to experience and capture nature in all its grandeur.
